In 1910, master butcher Karl and his wife Johanna Händlmaier opened their first butcher's shop in the old town centre of Regensburg. Today the Händlmaier company has become the nationwide market leader in Germany for sweet mustard. The concept for the continuous, clearly defined interior design and furnishings for the new Händlmaier offices was developed by architects Berschneider+Berschneider in Regensburg. The deliberately reduced range of materials used also represents the ideals of the company: wood for stability and tradition, with the grey oak of the floors, furniture, doors and window reveals, or white for purity. The strikingly red stair wall, reflecting the familiar colour from the company logo, is the central eye-catching feature.
Customised to suit each room situation and interior design setting, generously proportioned basic S gliding-door systems were supplied by werner works to give structure to the rooms. Below the row of windows, table-height sliding-door cupboards were tailored precisely to fit across the width of the room. The clear, continuous lines of the furnishings underline the pared-down vocabulary of the interior design.
